In recent years, Dr. Soares has focused his work on hypermedia systems and middleware for digital TV systems, areas in which he has a lot of journal and conference papers and some published books. He has actively acted as program committee member and chair in EuroiTV, ACM DocEng, ACM Multimedia, ACM SAC, SBC-SBRC, and SBC-WebMedia conferences; and in IEEE Multimedia, Multimedia Tools and Application, Journal of the Brazilian Computer Society, ACM Transactions on Multimedia Computing, Communications, and Applications, and ACM SIGMM Multimedia System journals.
