TeleMídia is a research laboratory at PUC-Rio, affiliated with its Computer Science Department. It is dedicated to research and innovation about hypermedia/multimedia systems, networked multimedia, and machine learning. TeleMídia lab has been a reference regarding research on middleware for terrestrial and IP-based Digital TV systems. It is the creator of Ginga middleware, an international royalty-free standard for interactive video applications in different TV contexts (Broadcast, Broadband, IPTV and IBB), adopted by more than 13 countries among South America and Africa.

More recently, the lab has been focusing on Machine Learning for Multimedia Analysis (in projects in partnership with Petrobras, RNP, and Microsoft) and Immersive Media (in particular, exploring new Multi-sensorial Media and Virtual Reality scenarios).

TeleMídia was founded in 1991 by Prof. Luiz Fernando Gomes Soares and is headed by Prof. Sérgio Colcher.
